Each year, MAAC honors standout student-athletes, teams, and leaders across Western North Carolina—celebrating performance, character, and commitment. Community members may also nominate deserving athletes and teams by downloading and submitting a Team/Athlete/Scholarship Nomination Form.

Henry Logan Division I Male Athlete of the Year
This award goes to the top male student-athlete overall who competes on the 4A to 8A level. The award is named after former basketball great Henry Logan who enjoyed and incredible career, first at Western Carolina and then in the American BasketballAssociation. He is a member of the North Carolina Athletic State Hall of Fame and the Western North Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame.
This award is named after Roberson graduate Riley Howell who sacrificed his life to save others when a campus shooting occurred in 2019 at UNC Charlotte. The Howell family sponsors this award and it goes to a student-athlete or a coach who has dealt with tremendous adversity and overcame that adversity.

Special Olympics Award
The Special Olympics Award goes to an individual who refuses to let any perceived disability get in their way to compete in athletic competition. It goes to a Special Olympian from Western North Carolina who has competed in athletic events over the past year at the highest level.
