A Legacy of Excellence in Western North Carolina

Founded in 1959 by the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club, the banquet was created to recognize local athletes across all sports—especially those often overlooked.

For over 60 years, the WNC Sports Awards Banquet has honored the region’s top high school and collegiate athletes: celebrating performance, character, and community.

Not the stage. Not the spotlight. But the dedication, discipline, and stories of the students who earn it.

After a brief pause, the banquet was revived in 2014 through the support of local leaders and community champions.

Today, the WNC Sports Awards Banquet continues as one of Western North Carolina’s most meaningful sports traditions—honoring excellence and investing in the next generation.
